Phe Festival once again stands out as the best of culture in the Canary Islands in 2021

Despite not classifying any Canarian activity in the national ranking, the Culture Observatory presented by the Fundación Contemporánea and made up of more than a thousand professionals from the sector, places Phe Festival already Mueca at the top of the cultural offer of the islands for the second consecutive year. We continue to be surprised and grateful for the consideration and recognition of the effort that has been made through the active policies of Puerto de la Cruz, generating a cultural ecosystem that would not be possible without the support of the public.

To offer these results, Fundación Contemporánea sends a questionnaire to a panel of experts made up of more than a thousand top-level professionals from our culture: writers, artists, directors and actors, musicians, architects and creators from all fields; heads of foundations, directors of museums, theaters, cultural centers and institutions; editors, producers, promoters, gallery owners and managers of cultural industries; exhibition curators, festival directors, cultural managers and professionals in the sector, as well as heads of cultural areas and institutions of the central, regional and municipal public administration.

In this new edition of the Observatory of Culture, the questionnaire has been answered, during the months of December 2021 and January 2022, by 358 members of the panel, of whom 44.7% work in a public cultural organization, 39. 9% in a private cultural organization and 15.5% as independent professionals in the sector.

Among the most outstanding novelties in the 2021 report in the Canary Islands, other festivals of different genres are added to the ranking, such as TEA, Keroxen, Festival Internacional Clownbaret and Canarias Jazz & más, events that share the first positions with WOMAD, the Canary Islands International Music Festival, the Festival del Cuento and Masdanza.

Firefly and Mel Ömana, yesterday, Saturday, there was an intense program of parallel activities with Phe Gallery, Phe Yoga and Aqualia Phe Sports.

The tropical rhythms of Mel Omana they welcomed the brave ones who from five in the afternoon crossed the gates of the festival that said goodbye to its 2021 edition in style. Danceable, elegant and totally dedicated, the Canarian singer-songwriter did not spare a second of her performance and the public responded to her enthusiasm, infected by the deliciousness.

Even with the sun over the heads of the attendees, the moment expected by many arrived. They repeated on the tables of Phe Zahara and Martí Perarnau IV, this time in perfect partnership, with their joint project _june, a fruitful alliance that began with the song Today the beast has dinner at home, and which promises to bring much joy to lovers of electronic pop. It is a record of musical experimentation, but it works very well live.

and then it came Biznaga. Punk in the twilight hour and the public giving everything as far as possible. The people of Madrid conquered with a spectacular sound and all the attitude in the world, one of the great blows of effect of a festival that, year after year, revalidates its position of reference in the culture of the archipelago with a firm commitment to quality music.

The respectable answered, it was clear, but it was also clear what they expected. Rigoberta Bandini He came, he saw and he conquered. Gaul from Porto surrendered to the rhythm and the greedy rhythm of protest and fun. I have a happy heart and go back to the classics, with new arrangements and adapted to times that sometimes seem complicated, but, oh, the music again. And some artists delighted with the food in Puerto de la Cruz, which, in their own words, was the best of the entire tour. These people know.

the music and Rufus T. Firefly and Anne Tijoux, which put an end to two days full of commitment, culture, music and passion. And, above all, hope that things, although different, will return to the way they were before.

Phe's weekend was completed with the yoga, roller and skate workshops, in addition to the Guided tours of Phe Gallery who also put up the sold out sign. There is a desire for normality, there is a desire for culture. How different things would be without a global pandemic. Phe Yoga expands its offer in the 2021 edition

the encounter Phe Yoga, which will be held in Puerto de la Cruz on August 20 and 21 within the parallel programming of Phe Festival, doubles its offer this year with eight sessions, instead of the four programmed in the previous edition. The meeting will take place on the island of Lago Martiánez, which It will become a meeting and coexistence space for all the participants..

It is a response to the success of the call in 2020 and the commitment of the organization of Phe Festival with the development of transversal activities that complement the purely musical offer. The program takes place in two parallel blocks from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and attendees will be able to choose between different styles whatever their level of practice. The intention is to bring the different disciplines closer to both people who already practice yoga and those who are about to discover this activity for the first time and cultivate both the physical and the spirit at the same time.

Other more heterodox proposals that are combined with dance are incorporated into the traditional practices of breathing, meditation and relaxation, resulting in an ideal combo for those more restless spirits. As an example, the surf + yoga practice that will take place on Friday from 2:00 p.m. In addition, an inversion workshop with feetup, a Thai yoga session, the renewal of Ashtanga yoga and the dynamism of Yoga Dance, will be the showcase for this activity that has recruited so many followers during confinement.

Phe Yoga will culminate on Saturday with a vegan picnic of coexistence among the participants, by The Dog is Hot and 81 Foods, with the intention of prolonging the experience and developing themes related to the spirit of the meeting, such as conscious eating.

In accordance with health recommendations, the number of places is limited and the sessions will be held scrupulously contemplating all current security measures depending on the level of restrictions in which Tenerife is at that time. Even so, the organization recommends, above all, responsibility and caution. Registration for Phe Yoga can be done on the same Phe Festival page or at Tickety.es.

Commitment to sustainable development

Phe Yoga is an activity directly related to some of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, with which the organization of Phe Festival is firmly committed. Health and well-being and responsible production and consumption are some of the axes on which to reflect and put into practice during the sessions, although Phe's daily activity can influence up to eleven of the objectives set by the United Nations. Thus, for example, in collaboration with the Sustainable City and Planning Area of Puerto de la Cruz, Ecoembes, Ecovidrio and Tenerife + Sustainable, a Waste Management Plan is carried out that guarantees sustainable consumption and production methods, incorporating a circular economy approach that goes beyond waste management.

In accordance with this line of sustainable action, Phe Festival prioritizes issues such as health and well-being, with a self-protection and occupational risk prevention plan managed in collaboration with the Porto corporation and presented, since the previous edition, in the context of the health crisis derived from COVID-19 and in the that all phases of the event are contemplated.

What's more, Phe Festival commitment to gender equality both in the organization and in programming, with policies and measures that promote gender equality in the cultural and communication sector. In this sense, it tries to go one step further as an organization by dealing with equality, or its lack, in these sectors to detect problematic situations and propose solutions.

Clean water and sanitation, with accessible drinking water and adequate resource management in sanitation and the prioritization of clean energy during the festival are other actions in which Phe Festival is committed to sustainable development. To these actions we must also add those focused on economic growth through the supply of quality work, guaranteeing job security, continuity and access under equal conditions.

Definitely, Phe Festival and the City Council of Puerto de la Cruz work together  in an inclusive, safe and sustainable city project, taking into account criteria such as well-being, justice and social equality.

We temporarily stop the sale of subscriptions and tickets for Phe 2021

On Phe Festival We are not oblivious to the uncertainty that has been generated in terms of holding events, especially after the restrictions that have been adopted by the authorities to stop the uptick in infections in recent weeks. Added to this is the uneasiness generated by the lack of definition of a regulated legal framework that allows us to work normally in the 2021 edition of the festival.

In this context, we have been forced to make the complicated decision to stop the sale of subscriptions and tickets since we currently have the capacity allowed by current regulations covered.

We will continue to put all our efforts so that we can live the full Phe experience in the best possible conditions. Like last year, current prevention regulations will be respected, according to the indications of the Government of the Canary Islands, and the event will take place with a security protocol. In this way, to this day it is still mandatory the use of a mask, hydroalcoholic gel, interpersonal safety distance as well as pre-assigned seats.

We will not tire of thanking our public for their unconditional support, Cross port for their involvement in the project –especially the staff of the Culture Area– to the sponsors, collaborators, agencies, companies, artists and workers they feel too Phe Festival. Our commitment to them, as well as to the live music industry, the islands' tourism sector and culture with sustainable attitudes remains intact.

In the meantime, take good care of yourselves.

There's less left to see each other...
…because we still have Phe.

It will be on Saturday at noon when the riders will be able to jump into the sea from the ramp and achieve the best score by the judges.

The sports activities end in the afternoon around the pier, with the awards ceremony and a sample of activities typical of urban culture such as break dancing and roller-skating in acrobatic and playful variations in dance mode.

In its commitment to invigorate ideas and spirit, the festival once again incorporates into its programming one of the great trends that the health crisis left us in 2020: Phe Yoga. In this edition, the number of sessions is increased to enjoy this discipline that combines meditation and physical well-being, and will take place on Saturday, August 20, starting at 10 a.m. on the Isla del Lago Martiánez.

Phe Gallery is a platform for disseminating current art made in the Canary Islands, generating creative and social actions to bring cultural innovation closer to all audiences. It offers an open meeting and dialogue space for emerging artists from the islands, thus collaborating with the promotion of culture as a factor of sustainable development in Puerto de la Cruz. Phe Festival and Mueca, the best of culture in the Canary Islands in 2020

The Contemporary Foundation has presented the Culture Observatory corresponding to 2020, a report that they carry out each year with agents of the sector in which they place Phe Festival and Grimace, two festivals in Puerto de la Cruz, in the first position in the ranking of cultural events and institutions in the Canary Islands.

A piece of news that makes us very happy for the consideration and recognition of the effort that we have been making together with the Puerto de la Cruz City Council and that would not have been possible without the support of our public. This document, which has the assessment of culture professionals from the public and private sectors, has analyzed the impact of the pandemic on the cultural sector and its progress in digital transformation, as well as the most outstanding cultural institutions and events of the year, despite the difficulties in which they have developed in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Among the most outstanding novelties in the 2020 report in the Canary Islands, other festivals of different genres are added to the ranking, such as Keroxen, Boreal, Clownbaret and Canarias Jazz & más, events that share the top positions with the TEA, the Canary Islands International Music Festival, the Adán Martín Tenerife Auditorium, the Los Silos Story Festival and Masdanza.

Although 340 cultural proposals have been highlighted in the Observatory of Culture as the best in all of Spain in the most difficult year for the sector, no activity in the Canary Islands appears in the national ranking.
