Judeline, the ‘glass girl’ lighting up Puerto de la Cruz's summer

The 22-year-old singer from Cadiz lands in Puerto de la Cruz with the tour for her debut album ‘Bodhiria,’ as the icon of a new generation that connects tradition and avant-garde.

Judeline She is one of the most promising voices in the new Spanish pop scene. The singer from Cádiz, whose name is Lara Fernández, who grew up in the town of Caños de Meca, a coastal village in Barbate, Cádiz, is a major phenomenon in recent history, and will be stopping in Puerto de la Cruz on Saturday, September 6th to illuminate the tenth anniversary of Phe Festival. A bet by the festival organizers from El Puerto to have this young artist in 2025, who is setting the pace both in Spain and abroad with a musical proposal that transcends genres, where Andalusian heritage is mixed and enriched with elements of pop and electronic music.

A contemporary pulse that has had unprecedented national and international significance. Its debut album Bodhiria (Interscope, 2024), released in October 2024, produced by his collaborators Tuiste and Mayo, along with members of Russia IDK Rusowsky, Drummie and Ralphie Choo, and Rob Bisel (SZA, Tate McRae) has been acclaimed by the international press in outlets such as Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, The Fader, Billboard, The New York Times, NPR, Variety or Remix.

With millions of streams of their repertoire across all platforms streaming, Judeline has been recognized as the artist representing the future of European music after winning two awards at MME (MME Award and Public Choice Award) at the Eurosonic Noorderslag 2025 festival, and receiving the El Ojo Crítico de RNE award, among other accolades. Judeline was the only Spaniard to perform on stage at the Coachella festival (California), held in April of this year, in addition to being present at major national festivals. In this regard, it should be noted that Judeline decided to cancel her performance this year at the Benicassim International Festival due to FIB's link to the KKR fund and its support for the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Created between tradition and the avant-garde, Judeline doesn't want to pigeonhole her music or seek a label to define the kind of emotionally charged pop she practices, which is filled with spirituality. Her starting point, rooted in flamenco, Camarón, and Lorca, serves as a launchpad in search of new sonic horizons.

With a childhood and adolescence marked by the gray tones of depression that befell him as a consequence of Bullying what they did to her in school and high school, as the artist herself has stated, at 16 she dropped out of her fourth year of ESO to change her surroundings to Amsterdam, start working, and sing in her free time. Judeline was the first Spanish artist in the campaign Singles of Spotify in 2023, with its versions of The Torture and I Am The Only One, in addition to being recognized as a VEVO DSCVR Artist to Watch in 2024.

After embarking on a European stadium tour with J. The tenth edition of Phe Festival, on September 5th and 6th, embraces other music genres and presents a lineup of international and national artists who will headline the anniversary celebration in Puerto de la Cruz: the Belgian duo 2manydjs, of brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, musicians and producers, a side project of Soulwax, the alternative and electronic rock band they've led since 1995, who will be in Puerto de la Cruz with their catalog of impossible remixes; the Barcelona band Dorian, prominent figures in electronic pop and new wave on the national scene; Samurai, a Madrid-based artist who practices a sort of pop fusion and alternative rock, which has positioned itself as one of the most promising voices in the Spanish music scene; Cycle, the perfect equation of electronic production, danceable beats, and guitars, which joins the tenth Phe Festival party with the 20th-anniversary tour of their debut album, Weak on the Rocks (2005); the Compostelan Carlangas, that after more than a decade and five albums released leading Novedades Carminha, arrives at Phe with his personal sonic adventure; and the musician and producer from Lanzarote Ale Acosta with his solo project.

In the presence of the New York band Nada Surf and the Canaries San Tosielo, Broken Ship and Los Blody, it's worth highlighting the incorporation of Ganges, project selected from 400 proposals from 75 different locations that received the call for the Spanish music internationalization program The Spanish Wave, in its first collaboration with the Tenerife festival.

Among the new features of this edition, Phe Festival presents three stages with simultaneous programming to mark the debut of Phe Club, a new space dedicated to electronic music and clubbing culture, which will feature 25 internationally renowned artists and prominent Canarian references.

Phe Festival is entering a new decade after closing an unforgettable ninth edition. This perception is felt in the public's loyalty to this benchmark musical event of the Canary Islands summer. Puerto de la Cruz is already a place of worship for musical trends and a bouquet of emerging proposals where more than 10,000 attendees gathered, meeting the expectations of the organization. The fact that Phe Festival is already heading towards its tenth edition is, above all, due to its public. A whole generation that is gaining followers and that is fulfilling one of the festival's objectives, which is the creation of new audiences around music and trends.

With a musical programme and an eclectic line-up of artists in styles as diverse as rock and pop, indie, urban sounds between rap and funk, and dance sequences of international significance, the ninth edition of PHE Festival in its two days of concerts leaves performances that are major milestones in the history of the festival in El Puerto. Highlights include concerts by Lori Meyers in what was his first live performance in Tenerife, and which was the most celebrated by the public on the opening day; by the Galician artist Sen Senra, one of the referents of urban pop and a bet of the festival in 2024; León Benavente, who in his second visit to PHE Festival after the 2017 edition, changed the rhythm of the festival with an energetic show on Saturday night; and the always festive Joe Crepúsculo, who closed the concerts on the first night.

Alongside these national bands with a well-known career, there are also emerging bands and others that have quickly gained the respect and popularity that any artist aspires to, and that have Canarian members in their line-up. In this edition, Phe Festival brought to Puerto de la Cruz proposals such as the Madrid-based Camellos, with three albums already released; La Paloma, fronted by the Gran Canarian Lucas Sierra, who left their mark on the thousands of spectators who attended the Tenerife festival; or the Seville-based Vera Fauna.

In this sense, it is worth noting the female presence in a good part of the artistic line-up of this edition, with bands and proposals with a female voice and pulse that have also grown on the national scene, as is the case of the Madrid-based group Shego, or Pipiolas, the duo shared by the Gran Canarian Adriana Ubani. and Madrid native Paula Reyes. Youth and experience in the female category also came together at Phe Festival with the presence of Mavica, the alter ego of Marta Casanova, a native of Cartagena and based in London; and Soleá Morente, who demonstrated her versatility in moving through different styles and letting herself be influenced by them to give colour to her music.

Another female voice to highlight in the line-up of artists at Phe Festival was the Tenerife singer Jela, with a background that aspires to the major leagues in the urban scene, as she demonstrated on stage. Hers was one of the Canarian-style proposals that the festival offered, along with the live performances of Enrique Ive and Nala Rami.

Electronics and club culture

The Phe Festival was also a generous showcase of different trends in dance music and club culture. While in previous editions Puerto de la Cruz had been visited by top-notch proposals in the electronic scene such as the British Orbital, references in the dance scene since the 90s of the last century, or the German duo Digitalism, this year two figures with notable careers and reputations on the international scene were programmed: the Danish group Trentemøller and the Belgians Goose, turned the festival into a dance floor in the final stretch of the festival.

As a novelty, the Phe Festival inaugurated a new stage, the Espacio Domo Jagermeister, with sessions of deejays and selectors of different styles in the afternoon and evening in the days prior to the two days of concerts, from Tuesday to Thursday. This new Espacio Domo extended its programming to Friday and Saturday, in parallel with the festival's programming, with a select list of deejays. A proposal that had the support of the attending public as could be seen with the massive attendance that this third stage of Phe had during the days of the festival.

Beyond sound waves

Phe Festival goes beyond sound waves. Puerto de la Cruz became a meeting point for yoga, health and wellness workshops; extreme sports such as the V Aqualia BMX Waterjump; wine tastings with Phe Wine and other types of artistic proposals such as the unmissable Phe Gallery. In addition, within the music venue there are, as every year, market and gastronomy proposals that provide the added value necessary to complete an incomparable festival proposal in the Canary Islands.

It should be noted that Phe Festival has become a brand. Its provocative and suggestive musical style, its vocation for discovery and trends; and its innovative and attentive spirit with the public make it a genuine festival. Something that also 'infects' Puerto de la Cruz and transforms the tourist city into a cradle of avant-garde music, opening up the profile of the tourist who visits it.

Phe Festival is currently opening its season ticket campaign for its 2025 edition. Refunds of the remaining credit on cashless wristbands for this edition can be made starting this Tuesday, August 27 at 9:00 a.m. The period to recover it is open until next Tuesday, September 3.

Dance cures everything on the second day of Phe Festival 2024

The ninth edition of the festival had the best possible closing in its history, with energetic and overwhelming live performances by León Benavente, Trentemøller and Goose

Dancing cures everything and the musical sequence between stages at the PHE Festival on its second Saturday day clung to the dance floor as if there was no tomorrow. The concerts by León Benavente, Trentemøller and Goose were great, both for the attitude and impact of these bands, each in their own style and musical concept, and for the response they received from the public. And as the PHE Festival is not only fuelled by speed and electronic sequences, the Saturday day left more intimate and bare proposals in the musical aspect, and others that move between rock and pop, funk, psychedelia and new flamenco, which had Mavica, Shego, Nala Rami and Camellos as protagonists.

Above all, it was a night of dancing, with DJs and selectors on the third stage inaugurated this year, the Espacio Domo Jagermeister. One of those unique and unforgettable days that are the hallmark of PHE Festival, which was taken away when León Benavente took to the main stage, after 9:00 p.m., with Abraham Boba, who knows how to lead the audience to the right place. It was the second time that the band was in Puerto de la Cruz, after the 2017 edition, and their formula of rock implemented with sequences and structures that draw on the most vitamin-rich kraut got an audience on its feet, jumping and singing along, who also wanted to go crazy at the feast that León Benavente was serving up.

A complete repertoire that started with Type D and ended much higher with Yesterday I went outThe band shook up their discography, four albums released, plus EPs and others, in a concert with a notable electronic pulse, increasingly present, in which without respite and with Abraham Boba moving in and out, they sounded There is no fear, Provisional state, Like the stone that floats and I love, in a first loop of songs. But before the story of the last dance that PHE Festival brought, with Trentemøller and Goose, we must take note of what happened in the middle of the afternoon at the opening, which had Mavica on the stages of the port area, fronted by Marta Casanova, who opened the doors to the pop melancholy, acoustic and with electronic production, with which she has dressed the album. Sometimes a person never comes back (but that's okay). After her, the Madrid-based Maite, Raquel and Charlotte, the members of Shego, gave a concert in which they made good on the label of emerging band with the album Good luck girl (2023). Among others, they sounded Forgive me, Oh Boi, Sorry, I'm crying all over, I'm horny, I'll kill you or Steak Tar Tar, with which they ran out of time.

THE MIRROR BALL

The pop psychedelia and neo flamenco that make the Sevillians Vera Fauna their hallmark (version of I blush, by Papa Levante, included) was another of the sensations of the second day of PHE Festival, in which there was also room for old school funk with Nala Rami, the group of the Gran Canarian saxophonist Alan Himar. The winner of the Sonora Las Palmas de Gran Canaria competition arrived in Puerto de la Cruz with Pasaporte Sonora and a set that embraced the mirror ball with pieces such as I died in the disco, Superficial or Sundays.

The final stretch of PHE Festival was in another league, with the Danish Trentemøller in band format, the Madrid-based Camellos and the Belgian group Goose. Without a doubt, the international triumph of this edition goes to the musician, DJ and producer Anders Trentemøller, and the musicians he came with: Diisa Jakobs (vocals, guitars, synthesizers), Silas Tinglef (drums, guitars), Brian Batz (guitars) and Jacob Haubjerg (bass). The Danish maestro made his debut in Puerto de la Cruz with a master class on dream pop, shoegaze, psychedelia, with passages of the caliber of Dreamweavers or Moan, and others where the guitars in the shadow of Dick Dale, for example, are contaminated with acidic and twisted rhythms. Superlative elegance for electronic gourmets.

Before the party electro rock of Goose, the PHE Festival lowered the revolutions slightly to welcome Camellos. The punk adjective applied to the Madrid group has to do with the songs and how the public reacts, as could be seen. From their own creation, they delivered songs such as Mallet, Divorce, Rice with things, Who is laughing now, Copper flavor or Dance factory, by Joe Crepúsculo, who they invited to sing with them to make the party complete.

The closing of the PHE Festival was for Goose and the catchy electro rock played by the Belgians. The PHE Festival It is a musical and trend-setting event that accommodates all possible types of music. It is not a festival of indie groups, an outdated term that labels anything; nor is it a festival of electronics and dance; nor even of urban sounds, trap or any subgenre that entices the new generations. But in each new edition, and there are nine with the one in 2024, the PHE Festival It embraces all proposals and artists, from within and outside, who move within any of the aforementioned style coordinates.

The ninth edition, whose concert programme started this Friday, August 23, maintains this roadmap unchanged with artists such as the Granadans Lori Meyers, the Galician Sen Senra or the Barcelonan twilight joeFor the three of them, each in their own space and with their own audience, it was the first day of the festival in Puerto de la Cruz, with Lori Meyers getting a high mark.

The band led by Antonio López Noni did not disappoint in their first concert in Tenerife, due to their staging, attitude and a repertoire full of everlasting songs, which remain in the collective imagination and no longer belong to the band, but to the public, in this case to the thousands of people who followed each of the lyrics out loud. A great party in which all the expected ones fell: Beings of light, Neon lights, Flatland, Springs, Punk, Fireflies, You don't say anything anymore, Time will pass, The sun always shines, Make you fly, the long-awaited and celebrated Getting drunk, Are they back?, My reality and High fidelity.

The first day of PHE Festival It had much more than the long-awaited meeting with Lori Meyers, as it was the first concert of the Galician Sen SenraThere was expectation to see the evolution of this rising figure of urban pop, who came to PHE Festival with his latest album PO2054AZ, the sound alibi to trace an emotional journey with his most eclectic creations. The perfect combination of the V BMX Aqualia Waterjump at Phe Festival this Friday 23rd

Like a good pairing of food and wine, there are combinations that make the spectator burst with emotion. And that is precisely what the BMX Aqualia Waterjump at Phe Festival achieves. Water, adrenaline, fun, friends and fast-paced rides are the elements that combine perfectly to make this sporting event one of the most eagerly awaited within the 'menu' of parallel activities at the festival in El Puerto.

The fishing dock in Puerto de la Cruz is the perfect setting for the fifth edition of this activity this Friday, August 23 at 2:30 p.m. There are 900 euros in prizes for the three best jumpers. In addition, in this edition other vehicles have been incorporated to jump into the water besides bicycles: it can be done on a skateboard. The jury will decide who are the best three jumpers of this fifth edition.

Mati Lasgoity and Rubén Rodríguez know the waterjump discipline very well and are immersed in the coordination of the activity, as well as being active participants in the competition. Lasgoity has taken the podium in the last two editions of the competition and this year “I am going with all the energy to repeat everything, even the podium,” he announced.

Aqualia has been the main promoter of this frenetic activity since its beginnings and Phe Festival is grateful that they are also present in this fifth edition. The promotion and encouragement of sport and healthy living is key to the organization of Phe Festival and thanks to entities such as Aqualia, it is possible to offer a quality alternative program.

Braulio Domínguez, Head of Production at Aqualia in Tenerife and a native of Puerto de la Cruz, is clear that the support of Aqualia, the entity responsible for providing such an essential service as bringing water to the homes of the people of Puerto de la Cruz, must continue to be present in activities such as this. “Promoting and promoting initiatives such as the fifth edition of the Aqualia BMX Waterjump at Phe Festival is a pleasure for us. Our relationship and commitment with the City Council, and therefore with the citizens of Puerto de la Cruz, in cultural, health and well-being initiatives, is historic. Our business values are fully aligned with this type of discipline,” explains Domínguez. The definition of the V BMX Aqualia Waterjump combination has been created by Lasgoity and Rodríguez. Widely knowledgeable in the discipline, they are clear that although falling into the water with a bicycle may seem easy and fun, it is not so if the body falls into the water before the bicycle: “if the bicycle falls into the water before you do, it is ideal because it breaks the tension of the water,” explains Rubén Rodríguez.

The trick or pirouette performed in the air is decisive in obtaining the highest score from the jury. However, the level of planning before the final jump varies depending on the rider: for Rodríguez it is something that is decided “when you are gaining speed to jump, it is crucial that you know what trick you are going to do,” he explains. For Lasgoity and in his particular case, “the jumps are thought out and premeditated because a mistake there is like falling on the asphalt,” he warns.

The Phe, the V BMX Aqualia Waterjump and Puerto de la Cruz are an equilateral triangle, with three equal sides. They always add and never subtract. “I think the waterjump has become one of the most popular activities within the Phe Festival because it is fun. It is a way of connecting because obviously, who doesn’t like doing or watching stunts on a bike?” asks Mati Lasgoity. For Rubén Rodríguez there is a connection between the sea and the idiosyncrasy of the city: “they have always had activities related to the sea, such as the cucaña at the Fiestas del Carmen. That attracts a lot of people’s attention. In addition, I think there is also the curiosity of seeing if we can do a stunt,” he says with a laugh.

The aquatic competition on wheels within the Phe Festival is more than consolidated. Beyond being the fifth edition, this year the expectations of participation are quite high both in number and origin of the riders. “This year we will have riders from outside the Canary Islands, specifically from Mallorca. In addition, we have the expectation that participation will increase and that the scooters (skateboards) in the competition,” Rodríguez explained.

Goose's synthetic rhythms are set to close Phe Festival

The Belgian group joins the lineup of the ninth edition of the festival in Porto on Saturday with an electro rock, festive and dance-oriented proposal

The synthetic rhythms and broad-spectrum electro rock in which the Belgian group's music moves Goose will be the closing soundtrack of the ninth edition of Phe Festivel, which will be held on August 23 and 24 in Puerto de La Cruz. The quartet formed by Mickael Karkousse, Dave Martijn, Tom Coghe and Bert Libeert comes to Phe Festival in excellent form and with a vibrant live performance that invites you to dance, in a year that celebrates the twentieth anniversary of a notable professional career.

Goose was formed in the summer of 2000 in Kortrijk, Belgium. After winning first prize at the Humo's Rock Rally competition for new bands in 2002, they recorded their first single with Teo Miller, Audience. A piece that would give the Danes a notable media prominence, since Coca-Cola used the debut single for television advertisements for the brand that were broadcast throughout Europe.

With six studio albums released to date, the debut album of Goose arrived in 2006 with the launch of Bring it on, the result of a contract with the Skint Records label. The band toured the festival stages of half of Europe and expanded their borders in the Australian and Japanese markets. Then came Synrise, Goose's second album, released in 2010, with art by Storm Thorgerson – graphic designer and member of the Hipgnosis team, author of iconic covers for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath or Scorpions-, which made possible a new European tour for Goose. The piece Synrise which gives the album its title was remixed by Soulwax, among others.

Control Control Control, from 2012, recorded live in the studio with the collaboration of Paul Stacey (Noel Gallagher) and Dave Sardy (Oasis, ZZ Top); the fourth What You Need, from 2016, which reached number one on the Ultratop chart; the most recent Endless, from 2022, in addition to the live Nonstop (Live at Pukkelpop, 2018), and singles, remixes and rarities aside, complete the discography of a band with an electrifying live performance.

The Belgian band is celebrating its anniversary. With the intention of positioning the municipality as a benchmark for live music, PHE Festival renew the campaign this year #HolidaysMatters, launching the 2×1 special promotion with which you can invite a companion and enjoy the festival in company, designed for people who live far from the archipelago. The festival also maintains the concept Family Friendly, planning like every year the accessibility of boys and girls to the venue during the day, bringing music and culture closer to all ages, with the idea of being a family-friendly, conciliatory and accessible festival.

A SUSTAINABLE FESTIVAL

Aware that holding a festival in a privileged environment such as Tenerife requires an exceptional commitment to sustainability, in each edition PHE Festival is concerned with correctly managing the event at an environmental, social and economic level, Likewise maintaining collaboration with entities such as Ecoembes, Ecovidrio or Martínez Cano with which selective waste collection and other efforts are carried out to fully enjoy the festival.

Phe Team assumes the executive production of Phe Festival, an event promoted by the Culture area of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council.
