Phe Festival opens call for the sixth edition of Gallery, a collective show of emerging artists in the Canary Islands

The Phe Gallery proposal inaugurates the parallel activities of the Porto festival, occupying the San Felipe Castle and other spaces in the city during the month of August.

Phe Festival and the Culture area of Puerto de la Cruz organize for the sixth consecutive year Phe Gallery, a call open to creators for the presentation of artistic projects in different formats (painting, sculpture, graffiti, installations, photography, illustration, video art, performance, window dressing...), which will be shown to the public in the collective exhibition that will take place at the Castillo San Felipe Cultural Space from July 28 to August 27, a collaborative proposal that kicks off the parallel activities in the 2023 edition of the festival.

Phe Gallery is a platform for the dissemination of current art made in the Canary Islands, generating creative and social actions to bring cultural innovation closer to all audiences. It offers an open space for meeting and dialogue for emerging artists from the islands, thus collaborating with the promotion of culture as a factor of sustainable development in Puerto de la Cruz. Its objective is to serve as a means to give visibility and dissemination to projects by new authors or groups that reflect on contemporary art, highlighting aspects related to sustainability and the social context. This project is developed especially in collaboration with Juventud Canaria.

Curated in this edition by Beatriz Roca, the exhibition will be made up mainly of a selection of works received through the registration form on the festival website, in which they will have to attach a digital portfolio with their proposal before June 9.  

This initiative coincides with the eighth edition of the Phe Festival, which will bring together in Puerto de la Cruz an outstanding line-up of national, international and local artists in the two days of concerts that will take place on Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th at its usual venue on the esplanade from the pier, where attendees will find a complete festival experience. Groups like the British Orbital and The Reytones together with the Argentine Trueno lead a bill that completes Arde Bogotá, Natalia Lacunza, Second, Shinova, Rocío Márquez & Bronquio and many other current references.

In addition to the days of concerts, Phe Festival once again includes a varied program of parallel activities with Phe Urban Sports and Phe Yoga multiplying the attractions with the expanded Phe Summer Camp proposal, and the collaboration of the city's cultural environment.

Phe Festival is organized by Phe Team with the promotion of the Culture area of the Puerto de la Cruz City Hall. It also has the sponsorship of the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development, Canary Islands Tourism and the General Directorate of Youth, as well as the Cabildo de Tenerife through its cultural and tourism management entities. Phe Gallery 2021 opens on July 30 with a selection of 17 artists

Phe Gallery inaugurates the activities of the sixth edition of the festival next July 30 and can be visited until the end of August at Castillo San Felipe. This year there will be 17 artists participating in this proposal that seeks to put the current creation with citizens and visitors of Puerto de la Cruz.

The exhibition, which can be visited until August 28, incorporates works developed in different artistic techniques and that cover a variety of topics at a time of pure need for expression, to tell what is happening and what we have experienced in recent months . The creators selected for this fourth edition of Phe Gallery are 3TTMAN, aldo garcia, Carlos S. Pena, Cristina Millares, Federica Furbelli, Laura Diaz, Lis is Beth, Manez, Moneiba Lemes, Noah Gonzalez, Oscar Lawrence, Paco Sanchez, Pathos x, Paula Skull, wigs, Raul Artiles and Serge Arzoumannian.

After a limited edition that was developed this weekend in Puerto de la Cruz, Phe sets course for his sixth year and confirm on August 20 and 21, 2021 as the dates on which the live concerts will take place. The festival thus bids farewell to a very tight celebration in dimensions, marked by the new context, in which it has been adapted to the new health circumstances with an exhaustive protocol to ensure that attendees safely enjoy a unique cultural experience.

True to its original philosophy of combining music and trends in an innovative proposal, Phe Festival has closed a unique edition, not only because it was one of the few festivals to be held in Spain, consolidated as one of the outstanding cultural events in the Canary Islands, and confirming its commitment to turning Puerto de la Cruz into a benchmark for live music . But it has also been for the strengthening of Puerto de la Cruz as a model municipality in the development and promotion of the island's cultural and creative fabric. "We are very proud that the City Council has promoted the celebration of this unique edition that, due to its excellence, will be taken as a model for the celebration of other cultural events throughout the Canary Islands", stressed Mayor Marco González.

The public of Ph 2020 not only has he been able to enjoy the musical experience with a high-profile line-up in which names such as Sidonie, Novedades Carminha, Ginebras, Cupido, Hidrogenesse or The Levitants have shone, but also a set of original artistic and social proposals for a perfect plan vacation. A different entertainment experience, with a capacity of around 800 people, a pre-assigned seat and a mandatory mask, in a venue – the El Peñón Municipal Stadium. adapted to the health prevention and safety measures required by the regulations. Sustainable practices, a yoga meeting and a collective exhibition have integrated the Phe program in its most complex year, thus maintaining the spirit of the summer festival that characterizes it.

The sample Phe Gallery, which brings together the work of more than 20 artists from the Canary Islands, will remain open until August 29 during the regular hours of the Espacio Cultural Castillo San Felipe, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday.

With the values and commitments acquired, Phe Festival a fifth edition ends with expectations fulfilled. An achievement that would not have been possible without the involvement of the Puerto de la Cruz City Council, whom the festival wishes to thank for its support, as well as all the institutions, sponsors and collaborators, all the residents of the municipality, and the public for their collaboration and responsibility with health measures.
