Judeline, the ‘glass girl’ lighting up Puerto de la Cruz's summer

The 22-year-old singer from Cadiz lands in Puerto de la Cruz with the tour for her debut album ‘Bodhiria,’ as the icon of a new generation that connects tradition and avant-garde.

Judeline She is one of the most promising voices in the new Spanish pop scene. The singer from Cádiz, whose name is Lara Fernández, who grew up in the town of Caños de Meca, a coastal village in Barbate, Cádiz, is a major phenomenon in recent history, and will be stopping in Puerto de la Cruz on Saturday, September 6th to illuminate the tenth anniversary of Phe Festival. With millions of streams of their repertoire across all platforms streaming, Judeline has been recognized as the artist representing the future of European music after winning two awards at MME (MME Award and Public Choice Award) at the Eurosonic Noorderslag 2025 festival, and receiving the El Ojo Crítico de RNE award, among other accolades. Judeline was the only Spaniard to perform on stage at the Coachella festival (California), held in April of this year, in addition to being present at major national festivals. In this regard, it should be noted that Judeline decided to cancel her performance this year at the Benicassim International Festival due to FIB's link to the KKR fund and its support for the Israeli offensive in Gaza.

Created between tradition and the avant-garde, Judeline doesn't want to pigeonhole her music or seek a label to define the kind of emotionally charged pop she practices, which is filled with spirituality. Her starting point, rooted in flamenco, Camarón, and Lorca, serves as a launchpad in search of new sonic horizons.

In the presence of the New York band Nada Surf and the Canaries San Tosielo, Broken Ship and Los Blody, it's worth highlighting the incorporation of Ganges, project selected from 400 proposals from 75 different locations that received the call for the Spanish music internationalization program The Spanish Wave, in its first collaboration with the Tenerife festival.

Among the new features of this edition, Phe Festival presents three stages with simultaneous programming to mark the debut of Phe Club, a new space dedicated to electronic music and clubbing culture, which will feature 25 internationally renowned artists and prominent Canarian references.

Phe Festival, consolidated as an unmissable event in the Canary Islands, takes a qualitative and quantitative leap in this anniversary edition with its commitment to musical diversity and innovation, expanding its venue and setting up three distinct stages with simultaneous programming for the first time. The Tenerife festival, which will be held on September 5 and 6 in Puerto de la Cruz, is offering a lineup this year that features dance music and club culture with the debut of Phe Club, and a range of live performances spanning indie, rock, alternative pop, and urban sounds. The tenth anniversary makes Phe Festival the first indie music festival in the Canary Islands to offer a continuous live music experience throughout the day across three stages with distinct musical offerings within the same festival grounds, solidifying its model as a trend-setting festival in constant regeneration.

A new scenario

The Phe Festival grounds will occupy more space in the Explanada del Muelle of Puerto de la Cruz with a Main Stage and two others that integrate the offer of Phe ClubSetting Deichmann (DOMO) and Scenario FARO. This new setting and programming is born out of the growing public demand for electronic dance music, consolidating Phe as a diverse, innovative, and constantly evolving festival. New spaces allow for exploring the richness of this genre, without neglecting its identity as a showcase for indie, alternative pop, hip hop, or emerging music.

The trend festival premieres Phe Club, with a new stage dedicated to electronic music and clubbing culture, and the presence of 25 internationally renowned artists and outstanding Canarian references.

Three scenarios where prominent names on the national and international circuit coexist with emerging, daring proposals committed to the values of inclusion and innovation during the first weekend of September. DJs and producers such as Erol Alkan, Optimo (Space), Alinka, Sugar Free, Poshuman, among others, will provide the soundtrack for Phe Club in this new cycle.

In addition, and following the success of last year's premiere, the Screams of midnight return with more force in this tenth edition. San Felipe Castle will host the exhibition of the 18 selected protagonists in 2025, from August 8th to September 6th. The exhibition is complemented by Gallery Talks, a program of activities, talks, and artistic encounters during the month of August to create synergies between different agents of the scene in the Canary Islands, with the live recording of the podcast Ambrosia The Cultural Mag.

As a new development, this year sees Phe Circular, a day that will integrate culture and ecology, reaffirming the festival's commitment to sustainable development. Phe Gallery opens call for entries for its eighth edition

The call, open until June 8, 2025, is aimed at artists residing in the Canary Islands whose works will be part of a collective exhibition at the Castillo San Felipe in Puerto de la Cruz during the month of August.

Phe Festival, together with the support of Canarian Youth, the area of Culture of Puerto de la Cruz and CajaCanarias Foundation, open the announcement for the eighth edition of Phe Gallery, and it does so while maintaining its essence: giving visibility to emerging art in the Canary Islands while exploring new forms of dialogue with our environment. If you're an artist, you're in the right place (and at the right time). Phe Gallery continues to grow, positioning itself as a key platform for emerging art in the Canary Islands.

The The exhibition will be on display from August 8 to September 7 in it San Felipe Castle Cultural Space, in Puerto de la Cruz, and will be accompanied by the already well-known Gallery Talks: meetings, reflections and conversations between artists and the public in a unique setting.

The call is open until June 8, 2025 and is aimed at emerging artists residing in the Canary Islands, or who present projects linked to the archipelago. A transformative alliance: AFES Mental Health and Phe Festival work together toward a caring culture

At Phe Festival, we believe that culture isn't just heard, seen, or danced. It's also felt, shared, and transformed. That's why, in this 2025 edition, we're adding a new partnership that excites us as we build a more inclusive, empathetic, and transformative cultural space: we're collaborating with AFES Mental Health, a leading organization in the Canary Islands with more than 40 years of experience defending the rights of people with mental health problems. This collaboration, which dates back to previous editions and is taking shape even more strongly in the 2025 edition, is much more than a combined effort: it's a declaration of principles.

The festival continues to focus on electronic music and club culture with the duo led by brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, a side project of Soulwax, legends of remixes and mashups.

The Spanish Wave is a project to internationalize Spanish talent which aims to help in the export of emerging artists and bands from our country, and which participates with showcases in the most important fairs, festivals of showcases and musical events from around the world, with the presence of national and international industry professionals. All of this is supported by booking agencies, record labels, and promoters, both national and international.

The presence of Dorian In Puerto de la Cruz it is an opportunity to enjoy the live performance of a band that has a very personal sound, with that mix of guitars and synthesizers, organic drums and electronic bases, and lyrics of creality. In his concert at Phe Festival, Dorian will be presenting his latest album. Impossible futures, as part of a tour in which they will travel through different points of Spain and a good part of the American continent.

In this album, Marc Gili, Belly Hernández, Bart Sanz and Lisandro Montes explore territories close to electronic pop, new wave and the folk An alternative, to move the audience with ten songs as profound as they are dazzling, which speak of grief caused by breakups, and the death and disappearance of several friends on the dark side of the night. Issues such as the fragility of human beings and the importance of forgiving and knowing how to ask for forgiveness surface in the story of Impossible Futures. Overall, it is an existentialist album that brings us back to Dorian. more heartbreaking, emotional and visceral.

In the words of the band itself, Impossible futures It is the expression of everything that cannot happen because something stopped or diverted the flow of events. "Almost all the songs on this album are the result of moments of crisis that, nevertheless, led us to understand that for every impossible future, life gives us another that wasn't planned, and that is capable of dazzling us like a new dawn, if we have the will and attitude necessary to overcome grief and reinvent ourselves," the group assures.

As 2manydjs, they've been bridging the past, present, and future like no one else. In their own words, "doing it the hard way since 2002."

Two brothers who have become one of the most innovative remixing and production teams today. In September 2023, David and Stephen were honored at the AIM Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Music by Soulwax, 2manydjs, and the DEEWEE label.

The Spanish Wave participates with showcases in the most important fairs, festivals and musical events around the world, with the presence of national and international industry professionals, and works closely with booking agencies, record labels, and national and international promoters. All this in collaboration with entities such as IEA, the SGAE Foundation, Cervantes Institute, Ticketmaster, Live Nation Spain, Sound World and Radio 3.

Phe Festival, officially one of the most sustainable festivals in Spain

The festival, which celebrates this certification in recognition of 10 years of commitment to sustainability, returns to Puerto de la Cruz on September 5 and 6

Phe Festival, one of the emblematic musical events of the Canary Islands, has reached a historic milestone in its history by obtaining the certification A Greener Future (AGF), awarded by this prestigious British audit expert in sustainability for festivals and cultural events at an international level. This achievement places the festival as a benchmark in the Canary Islands, being the only event in the archipelago to validate this 2024 certification so far, and underlines its firm commitment to protecting the environment and the positive impact of the festival in Puerto de la Cruz and its surroundings.

The AGF certification involves a comprehensive assessment process that examines various aspects of the festival's impact, including accessibility, transportation, energy and electricity use, waste management, water consumption, local environmental impact, Co2 emissions and Km0 services. During the 2024 edition, The AGF team of evaluators carried out an on-site analysis during the festival, assessing the suitability of sustainable measures and confirming the commitment to caring for the environment in different areas.

One of Phe Festival's achievements on its way to this certification has been the measuring its carbon footprint for the first time in 2024 to assess the environmental management of the event. This effort, which emphasises transparency, made it possible to identify the main sources of emissions and lay the foundations for an action plan aimed at reducing them in future editions. This action reflects not only a commitment to the present, but also a commitment to a more sustainable future in the cultural sector.

A decade of effort for a more sustainable festival

Since its inception, Phe Festival has assumed sustainability as a fundamental pillar of its identity. The 2024 edition stood out for implementing measures that contributed to this recognition, including collaboration with TITSA, a public company dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife for public transport, to promote the use of buses as an alternative means of transport, a selection of local suppliers and Kilometre 0 products in the food truck and market areas, using compostable tableware in restaurants and backstage. In addition, innovative actions were implemented such as solar power supply for the market area, promoting the use of renewable energy, as well as other complementary uses, such as biodegradable glitter at the make-up stands, or handmade ashtrays made from recycled cans in delimited smoking areas that guarantee a smoke-free space.

The use of reusable cups with a visible return point was also promoted, as well as a financial donation to the Albergue Valle Colino with the return of cups at the end of the festival by the public. In addition, inclusive initiatives such as the collaboration with AFES Salud Mental and SINPROMI, to integrate people with functional diversity in different areas of the event, as well as free entry for children under 12 years old, underline the festival's commitment to the 'family friendly' concept, the community and the environment.

A benchmark in the Canary Islands and beyond

With this certification, Phe Festival joins a select group of events around the world that meet AGF's demanding sustainability standards, reaffirming its role as a transformative agent, and following in the footsteps of other prominent festivals in the Canary Islands such as Sonidos Líquidos and Keroxen, which obtained this certification in previous years.

Obtaining the AGF certification represents a recognition of the collective effort of the organization, the collaborators and the attending public, who have embraced sustainable practices as an essential part of the festival experience. This achievement reinforces Phe Festival's commitment to continue being a cultural and environmental benchmark, also projecting Puerto de la Cruz as a sustainable tourism destination.

The benchmark summer music event in the Canary Islands is resonating with the loyalty of the public in Puerto de la Cruz with more than 10,000 attendees.

The festival closes an important cycle and looks towards the summer of 2025 thinking about the tenth edition.

Phe Festival is entering a new decade after closing an unforgettable ninth edition. This perception is felt in the public's loyalty to this benchmark musical event of the Canary Islands summer. Puerto de la Cruz is already a place of worship for musical trends and a bouquet of emerging proposals where more than 10,000 attendees gathered, meeting the expectations of the organization. The fact that Phe Festival is already heading towards its tenth edition is, above all, due to its public. A whole generation that is gaining followers and that is fulfilling one of the festival's objectives, which is the creation of new audiences around music and trends.

With a musical programme and an eclectic line-up of artists in styles as diverse as rock and pop, indie, urban sounds between rap and funk, and dance sequences of international significance, the ninth edition of PHE Festival in its two days of concerts leaves performances that are major milestones in the history of the festival in El Puerto. Highlights include concerts by Lori Meyers in what was his first live performance in Tenerife, and which was the most celebrated by the public on the opening day; by the Galician artist Sen Senra, one of the referents of urban pop and a bet of the festival in 2024; León Benavente, who in his second visit to PHE Festival after the 2017 edition, changed the rhythm of the festival with an energetic show on Saturday night; and the always festive Joe Crepúsculo, who closed the concerts on the first night.

Alongside these national bands with a well-known career, there are also emerging bands and others that have quickly gained the respect and popularity that any artist aspires to, and that have Canarian members in their line-up. In this edition, Phe Festival brought to Puerto de la Cruz proposals such as the Madrid-based Camellos, with three albums already released; La Paloma, fronted by the Gran Canarian Lucas Sierra, who left their mark on the thousands of spectators who attended the Tenerife festival; or the Seville-based Vera Fauna.

In this sense, it is worth noting the female presence in a good part of the artistic line-up of this edition, with bands and proposals with a female voice and pulse that have also grown on the national scene, as is the case of the Madrid-based group Shego, or Pipiolas, the duo shared by the Gran Canarian Adriana Ubani. and Madrid native Paula Reyes. Youth and experience in the female category also came together at Phe Festival with the presence of Mavica, the alter ego of Marta Casanova, a native of Cartagena and based in London; and Soleá Morente, who demonstrated her versatility in moving through different styles and letting herself be influenced by them to give colour to her music.

Another female voice to highlight in the line-up of artists at Phe Festival was the Tenerife singer Jela, with a background that aspires to the major leagues in the urban scene, as she demonstrated on stage. Hers was one of the Canarian-style proposals that the festival offered, along with the live performances of Enrique Ive and Nala Rami.

Electronics and club culture

The Phe Festival was also a generous showcase of different trends in dance music and club culture. While in previous editions Puerto de la Cruz had been visited by top-notch proposals in the electronic scene such as the British Orbital, references in the dance scene since the 90s of the last century, or the German duo Digitalism, this year two figures with notable careers and reputations on the international scene were programmed: the Danish group Trentemøller and the Belgians Goose, turned the festival into a dance floor in the final stretch of the festival.

As a novelty, the Phe Festival inaugurated a new stage, the Espacio Domo Jagermeister, with sessions of deejays and selectors of different styles in the afternoon and evening in the days prior to the two days of concerts, from Tuesday to Thursday. This new Espacio Domo extended its programming to Friday and Saturday, in parallel with the festival's programming, with a select list of deejays. A proposal that had the support of the attending public as could be seen with the massive attendance that this third stage of Phe had during the days of the festival.

Beyond sound waves

Phe Festival goes beyond sound waves. Puerto de la Cruz became a meeting point for yoga, health and wellness workshops; extreme sports such as the V Aqualia BMX Waterjump; wine tastings with Phe Wine and other types of artistic proposals such as the unmissable Phe Gallery. In addition, within the music venue there are, as every year, market and gastronomy proposals that provide the added value necessary to complete an incomparable festival proposal in the Canary Islands.

It should be noted that Phe Festival has become a brand. Its provocative and suggestive musical style, its vocation for discovery and trends; and its innovative and attentive spirit with the public make it a genuine festival. Something that also 'infects' Puerto de la Cruz and transforms the tourist city into a cradle of avant-garde music, opening up the profile of the tourist who visits it.

Phe Festival is currently opening its season ticket campaign for its 2025 edition. Refunds of the remaining credit on cashless wristbands for this edition can be made starting this Tuesday, August 27 at 9:00 a.m. The period to recover it is open until next Tuesday, September 3.

The ninth edition of the festival had the best possible closing in its history, with energetic and overwhelming live performances by León Benavente, Trentemøller and Goose

Dancing cures everything and the musical sequence between stages at the PHE Festival on its second Saturday day clung to the dance floor as if there was no tomorrow. The concerts by León Benavente, Trentemøller and Goose were great, both for the attitude and impact of these bands, each in their own style and musical concept, and for the response they received from the public. And as the PHE Festival is not only fuelled by speed and electronic sequences, the Saturday day left more intimate and bare proposals in the musical aspect, and others that move between rock and pop, funk, psychedelia and new flamenco, which had Mavica, Shego, Nala Rami and Camellos as protagonists.

Above all, it was a night of dancing, with DJs and selectors on the third stage inaugurated this year, the Espacio Domo Jagermeister. One of those unique and unforgettable days that are the hallmark of PHE Festival, which was taken away when León Benavente took to the main stage, after 9:00 p.m., with Abraham Boba, who knows how to lead the audience to the right place. It was the second time that the band was in Puerto de la Cruz, after the 2017 edition, and their formula of rock implemented with sequences and structures that draw on the most vitamin-rich kraut got an audience on its feet, jumping and singing along, who also wanted to go crazy at the feast that León Benavente was serving up.

A complete repertoire that started with Type D and ended much higher with Yesterday I went outThe band shook up their discography, four albums released, plus EPs and others, in a concert with a notable electronic pulse, increasingly present, in which without respite and with Abraham Boba moving in and out, they sounded There is no fear, Provisional state, Like the stone that floats and I love, in a first loop of songs. Brave spirit, almost an ancient hymn in their repertoire, La Ribera, California, Shooting the horses, Our anniversary, Mythical, At the feast, Being a Brigade, Glory and the aforementioned Yesterday I went out, completed a concert that is already historic in the history of PHE Festival.

But before the story of the last dance that PHE Festival brought, with Trentemøller and Goose, we must take note of what happened in the middle of the afternoon at the opening, which had Mavica on the stages of the port area, fronted by Marta Casanova, who opened the doors to the pop melancholy, acoustic and with electronic production, with which she has dressed the album. Sometimes a person never comes back (but that's okay). After her, the Madrid-based Maite, Raquel and Charlotte, the members of Shego, gave a concert in which they made good on the label of emerging band with the album Good luck girl (2023). Among others, they sounded Forgive me, Oh Boi, Sorry, I'm crying all over, I'm horny, I'll kill you or Steak Tar Tar, with which they ran out of time.

THE MIRROR BALL

The pop psychedelia and neo flamenco that make the Sevillians Vera Fauna their hallmark (version of I blush, by Papa Levante, included) was another of the sensations of the second day of PHE Festival, in which there was also room for old school funk with Nala Rami, the group of the Gran Canarian saxophonist Alan Himar. The winner of the Sonora Las Palmas de Gran Canaria competition arrived in Puerto de la Cruz with Pasaporte Sonora and a set that embraced the mirror ball with pieces such as I died in the disco, Superficial or Sundays.

The final stretch of PHE Festival was in another league, with the Danish Trentemøller in band format, the Madrid-based Camellos and the Belgian group Goose. Without a doubt, the international triumph of this edition goes to the musician, DJ and producer Anders Trentemøller, and the musicians he came with: Diisa Jakobs (vocals, guitars, synthesizers), Silas Tinglef (drums, guitars), Brian Batz (guitars) and Jacob Haubjerg (bass). The Danish maestro made his debut in Puerto de la Cruz with a master class on dream pop, shoegaze, psychedelia, with passages of the caliber of Dreamweavers or Moan, and others where the guitars in the shadow of Dick Dale, for example, are contaminated with acidic and twisted rhythms. Superlative elegance for electronic gourmets.

Before the party electro rock of Goose, the PHE Festival lowered the revolutions slightly to welcome Camellos. The punk adjective applied to the Madrid group has to do with the songs and how the public reacts, as could be seen. From their own creation, they delivered songs such as Mallet, Divorce, Rice with things, Who is laughing now, Copper flavor or Dance factory, by Joe Crepúsculo, who they invited to sing with them to make the party complete.

The closing of the PHE Festival was for Goose and the catchy electro rock played by the Belgians. Songs like Bring it on, title in addition to the debut album in 2006, or What you need, to name some of the hits that the quartet brought to Puerto de la Cruz, set the pace and the final dance steps for the ninth PHE Festival.
