A transformative alliance: AFES Mental Health and Phe Festival work together toward a caring culture

At Phe Festival, we believe that culture isn't just heard, seen, or danced. It's also felt, shared, and transformed. That's why, in this 2025 edition, we're adding a new partnership that excites us as we build a more inclusive, empathetic, and transformative cultural space: we're collaborating with AFES Mental Health, a leading organization in the Canary Islands with more than 40 years of experience defending the rights of people with mental health problems. This collaboration, which dates back to previous editions and is taking shape even more strongly in the 2025 edition, is much more than a combined effort: it's a declaration of principles.

Because yes, mental health is also a factor in Phe. And it's loud.

This year, the festival becomes one of the first to receive the distinction “Culture that cares”, a seal promoted by AFES that recognizes cultural spaces that clearly and actively commit to a more just, safe, and stigma-free society. It aims to publicly showcase an ethical, emotional, and social commitment that puts the well-being of all people at its center.

This seal isn't just a symbol. It's an action. During the festival, we will work with AFES to develop awareness-raising initiatives aimed at both the team and the public:

2MANYDJS (Soulwax) and Dorian's impossible remixes join Phe Festival 2025

The festival continues to focus on electronic music and club culture with the duo led by brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, a side project of Soulwax, legends of remixes and mashups.

The Barcelona band arrives in Puerto de la Cruz on September 5 and 6 with the tour of their seventh album, "Futuros imposibles."

The Belgian duo 2manydjs, of the brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, Belgian musicians and producers, side project of Soulwax, the An alternative and electronic rock band they've led since 1995, and the Barcelona-based band Dorian, prominent figures in electronic pop and new wave on the national scene, headline the lineup of artists for the tenth edition of Phe Festival, which will be held in the Tenerife municipality of Puerto de la Cruz on September 5 and 6.

With the confirmation of 2manydjs and Dorian The Phe Festival continues to present the artistic lineup for its tenth edition. In addition, in this tenth anniversary edition, Phe Festival collaborates, for the first time, with The Spanish Wave for an emerging national artist to join this year's program. The Spanish Wave is a project to internationalize Spanish talent which aims to help in the export of emerging artists and bands from our country, and which participates with showcases in the most important fairs, festivals of showcases and musical events from around the world, with the presence of national and international industry professionals. All of this is supported by booking agencies, record labels, and promoters, both national and international.

The presence of Dorian In Puerto de la Cruz it is an opportunity to enjoy the live performance of a band that has a very personal sound, with that mix of guitars and synthesizers, organic drums and electronic bases, and lyrics of creality. In his concert at Phe Festival, Dorian will be presenting his latest album. Impossible futures, as part of a tour in which they will travel through different points of Spain and a good part of the American continent.

In this album, Marc Gili, Belly Hernández, Bart Sanz and Lisandro Montes explore territories close to electronic pop, new wave and the folk An alternative, to move the audience with ten songs as profound as they are dazzling, which speak of grief caused by breakups, and the death and disappearance of several friends on the dark side of the night. Issues such as the fragility of human beings and the importance of forgiving and knowing how to ask for forgiveness surface in the story of Impossible Futures. Overall, it is an existentialist album that brings us back to Dorian. more heartbreaking, emotional and visceral.

In the words of the band itself, Impossible futures It is the expression of everything that cannot happen because something stopped or diverted the flow of events. "Almost all the songs on this album are the result of moments of crisis that, nevertheless, led us to understand that for every impossible future, life gives us another that wasn't planned, and that is capable of dazzling us like a new dawn, if we have the will and attitude necessary to overcome grief and reinvent ourselves," the group assures.

Songs from the repertoire of Dorian What Any other part, The sandstorm or The friends I lost, among others, are in their own right generational anthems, thus endorsed by critics and the public.

Active since 2004, to date, Dorian has released six studio albums with original songs, in addition to the unplugged Ten years and one day, and two live albums, one recorded at the Spanish Arenal Sound festival, and the other at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Pioneers in the modernization of the blend of pop and electronic music, as well as skillful renovators of post-punk and new wave sounds, their discography includes works such as 10,000 metropolises (2004), The future belongs to no one (2006), The underground city (2009), The speed of the vacuum (2013), Universal Justice (2018) and Ritual (2022).

Dance nights in Puerto de la Cruz

Phe Festival is the third Spanish city where the Belgians will be present. 2manydjs in djset format, and Puerto de la Cruz will be one of the nine dates confirmed in 2025. And Phe Festival's commitment to dance music and club culture is aimed towards Belgium in 2025 with the presence of the parallel project of the electronic and alternative rock band Soulwax led by brothers David and Stephen Dewaele. The pulse of these two Belgian musicians and producers has changed the concept of remixing and the art of mashupDance floor legends around the world for their eclectic sessions where they bring a rock and roll attitude to club culture. Imitated by countless artists since they released the iconic and referential As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2 (2002), with a deluxe reissue in 2022, 2manydjs comes to Phe Festival in DJ format to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Puerto Rican festival with his catalogue of impossible remixes in which music from different generations and styles intersect, and songs are related that become fuel for the dance floor.

Stephen and David Dewaele have been pushing the boundaries of music since 1995, branching out into new musical territory: a band (Soulwax), DJs (2manydjs), a record label (DEEWEE), and a sound system (Despacio), as well as creating an app and website (Radio Soulwax). As 2manydjs, they've been bridging the past, present, and future like no one else. In their own words, "doing it the hard way since 2002."

Two brothers who have become one of the most innovative remixing and production teams today. Their most recent works include Cliche, by Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul; Sponge cake, by Rosalia; Too Late Now, by Wetleg; I Go, by Peggy Gou; Sensitive Child, by Oliver Sim; You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), by Sylvester; and the Grammy-nominated Work It, by Marie Davidson; in addition to Fontaines DC, Diplo, Chet Faker, Roisin Murphy, LA Priest, Robyn, SG Lewis featuring Robyn & Channel Trios, Arcade Fire, The Rolling Stones, Tame Impala, Metronomy, Daft Punk, The Gossip, Hot Chip, MGMT and Warpaint, among other artists.

In September 2023, David and Stephen were honored at the AIM Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Music by Soulwax, 2manydjs, and the DEEWEE label.

Two days of live music

To the two-day live music program, which in 2025 will incorporate a third stage dedicated to dance music after the success of the Dome Space, The tent with DJs and selectors scheduled in the last edition, is added to the program of activities of Phe Experiences, with numerous parallel activities in the days leading up to the festival to enrich the stay of the thousands of festival-goers who come to Puerto de la Cruz during those days, such as Phe Gallery, Phe Yoga, and Urban Sports.

Phe Festival has been integrated into Puerto de la Cruz as a fundamental part of a cultural strategy that shares values with the tourist tradition, as has been demonstrated by its continuity and support from municipal institutions regardless of their political colour among its citizens. The festival adds value to its environment and is nourished by it, contributing to the coexistence between citizens of Puerto de la Cruz and visitors. In the last decade and under the auspices of Phe Festival, a new generation of festival-goers, lovers of good music, has been formed, making it possible for this alternative project born in 2016 to become a reference for many other events in the Canary Islands.

The project for the internationalisation of Spanish talent is launching a call to choose an emerging group or soloist to be part of the line-up for the tenth edition of the festival, which will be held on 5 and 6 September.

One of the festival's goals has always been to create new audiences around music and trends. With a musical programme and an eclectic line-up of artists in diverse styles such as rock and pop, indie, urban sounds, and dance proposals with an international character, Phe Festival collaborates, for the first time, with The Spanish Wave for an emerging national artist to join the programming of the tenth anniversary that we celebrate in 2025.

The Spanish Wave

The Spanish Wave participates with showcases in the most important fairs, festivals and musical events around the world, with the presence of national and international industry professionals, and works closely with booking agencies, record labels, and national and international promoters. All this in collaboration with entities such as IEA, the SGAE Foundation, Cervantes Institute, Ticketmaster, Live Nation Spain, Sound World and Radio 3.

10 Years of Phe Festival

Phe Festival, officially one of the most sustainable festivals in Spain

The festival, which celebrates this certification in recognition of 10 years of commitment to sustainability, returns to Puerto de la Cruz on September 5 and 6

Phe Festival, one of the emblematic musical events of the Canary Islands, has reached a historic milestone in its history by obtaining the certification A Greener Future (AGF), awarded by this prestigious British audit expert in sustainability for festivals and cultural events at an international level. This achievement places the festival as a benchmark in the Canary Islands, being the only event in the archipelago to validate this 2024 certification so far, and underlines its firm commitment to protecting the environment and the positive impact of the festival in Puerto de la Cruz and its surroundings.

The AGF certification involves a comprehensive assessment process that examines various aspects of the festival's impact, including accessibility, transportation, energy and electricity use, waste management, water consumption, local environmental impact, Co2 emissions and Km0 services. During the 2024 edition, The AGF team of evaluators carried out an on-site analysis during the festival, assessing the suitability of sustainable measures and confirming the commitment to caring for the environment in different areas.

One of Phe Festival's achievements on its way to this certification has been the measuring its carbon footprint for the first time in 2024 to assess the environmental management of the event. This effort, which emphasises transparency, made it possible to identify the main sources of emissions and lay the foundations for an action plan aimed at reducing them in future editions. This action reflects not only a commitment to the present, but also a commitment to a more sustainable future in the cultural sector.

A decade of effort for a more sustainable festival

Since its inception, Phe Festival has assumed sustainability as a fundamental pillar of its identity. The 2024 edition stood out for implementing measures that contributed to this recognition, including collaboration with TITSA, a public company dependent on the Cabildo de Tenerife for public transport, to promote the use of buses as an alternative means of transport, a selection of local suppliers and Kilometre 0 products in the food truck and market areas, using compostable tableware in restaurants and backstage. In addition, innovative actions were implemented such as solar power supply for the market area, promoting the use of renewable energy, as well as other complementary uses, such as biodegradable glitter at the make-up stands, or handmade ashtrays made from recycled cans in delimited smoking areas that guarantee a smoke-free space.

The use of reusable cups with a visible return point was also promoted, as well as a financial donation to the Albergue Valle Colino with the return of cups at the end of the festival by the public. In addition, inclusive initiatives such as the collaboration with AFES Salud Mental and SINPROMI, to integrate people with functional diversity in different areas of the event, as well as free entry for children under 12 years old, underline the festival's commitment to the 'family friendly' concept, the community and the environment.

A benchmark in the Canary Islands and beyond

With this certification, Phe Festival joins a select group of events around the world that meet AGF's demanding sustainability standards, reaffirming its role as a transformative agent, and following in the footsteps of other prominent festivals in the Canary Islands such as Sonidos Líquidos and Keroxen, which obtained this certification in previous years.

Obtaining the AGF certification represents a recognition of the collective effort of the organization, the collaborators and the attending public, who have embraced sustainable practices as an essential part of the festival experience. This achievement reinforces Phe Festival's commitment to continue being a cultural and environmental benchmark, also projecting Puerto de la Cruz as a sustainable tourism destination.

The organization faces a new cycle as a benchmark musical event in the Canary Islands and announces the first confirmed artists in 2025 in what will be a special edition to celebrate its first decade in Puerto de la Cruz on September 5 and 6.

Nada Surf, Carlangas and San Tosielo are the first artists confirmed for the tenth anniversary of Phe Festival. The organization announced days ago on its social networks this first group of guests for what is expected to be a major live music party in the Tenerife municipality of Puerto de La Cruz on September 5 and 6, 2025. The change of dates, from the end of August to the first week of September, makes the Phe Festival an unmissable event as the culmination of the summer holidays.
The organization has been working for months on the design of the tenth anniversary with regard to the line-up of international, national and local artists whose names will be announced in the near future. New York band Nada Surf, a regular on Spanish stages, is the first international addition to the tenth edition of Phe Festival. Nada Surf was formed in 1992 in New York, giving rise to an informal and artistically elevated style that would soon occupy a prominent place in the alternative rock scene. A project brought to life by Matthew Caws (guitar and vocals), Daniel Lorca (bass and vocals), Doug Gillard (guitar) and Ira Elliot (drums and vocals), who will arrive in Puerto de La Cruz with the repertoire of their latest album Moon Mirror (2024), which was recorded at Rockfield Studios Farm (Wales) with producer Ian Laughton.

Moon Mirror is Nada Surf's first album in four years and coincides with the 30th anniversary of their debut single, The Plan/Telescope. This Moon Mirror album has everything fans have come to love and expect from them: poetic, heart-pounding, thought-provoking reflections on the world around them and bittersweet anthems that start quietly but explode into soaring harmonies. It's all on this new record. So far the New York band have released several singles including In Front Of Me Now, New Propeller and Losing.

Carlangas and San Tosielo complete the trio of first confirmations for the tenth anniversary. After more than a decade and five albums published leading Novedades Carminha, the Santiago native Carlangas formally launched his solo project in 2022. Before that, he had signed collaborations with artists such as Baiuca, Sen Senra, Bronquio, Ilegales or Joe Crepúsculo, among others. In 2023 he published a self-titled debut album that features collaborations with artists such as Manu Chao, Grande Amore or Mundo Prestigio, who act as a live backing band (renamed Los Cubatas in that role), and which has made it onto the main lists of the best of the year.

Since 2023 he has offered close to 40 shows, with overwhelming success from specialized critics such as Jensesaispop, Rockdelux or Mondosonoro, having a presence in several of the most important festivals in Spain, and proving that he is one of the referents of a sound that drinks as much from the New York new wave as from Madchester, but also from the groove of the new pop, with a code that brings it closer to the sound of Parcels, Khruangbin or L'Imperatrice, among others, but without losing the punk spirit and rock culture as a base. He is currently presenting singles from Bailódromo (Vol. 1), his second album, published this fall and for which he has already confirmed several dozen performances at festivals and venues throughout Spain, including Phe Festival.

Phe Festival's commitment to music made in the Canary Islands and its protagonists continues in 2025. The first confirmed island presence is San Tosielo, a project formed by Pablo and Adrián, two Canarian artists established in Madrid with different musical backgrounds who offer a very fresh indie project. In their short career they have had the opportunity to play in several venues and festivals where they have already begun to demonstrate their intentions, with energetic gigs in which interaction with the public is a fundamental part. After their latest EP Vanpiro Esiten and finishing their 2024 tour, the duo is preparing a next album for 2025.

In addition to the two-day live music programme, which in 2025 will include a third stage dedicated to dance music following the success of Espacio Domo, the tent with DJs and selectors scheduled in the last edition, there is also the Phe Experiences programme of activities, with numerous parallel activities during the previous days to enrich the stay of the thousands of festival-goers who come to Puerto de la Cruz on those days, such as Phe Gallery, Phe Yoga or Urban Sports.
