Phe Festival bets on the zero footprint

The fourth edition of the event with music and trends will carry out workshops, a clean-up at Playa Jardín and recycling and waste reduction actions in collaboration with Fuentealta, Cabildo, the City Council and the Red Cross

Phe Festival, an appointment with music and trends in Puerto de la Cruz, which this year is celebrated on August 23 and 24, reaffirms its commitment to sustainability by reinforcing recycling and waste reduction actions, moving forward on the path initiated in its second edition.

Caring for the environment is one of the fundamental pillars of the Phe Festival project, which this year consolidates its commitment to sustainability by minimizing the generation of waste, promoting the selective collection of waste generated and offsetting the carbon footprint generated.

One of the main challenges of this 2019 is the reduction of waste at source, which is why in the Phe Festival bars all packaging will be returnable. Through the use of glass bottles and reusable cups, waste generation is significantly reduced.

Fuentealta joins our commitment to sustainability and will be the water present at Phe Festival, as it is the only Canarian company that has a 25% of recycled plastic in its packaging (PET). From Thursday, August 22 to Saturday, August 24, in collaboration with Fuentealta and with the People + Sustainable program of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Phe Espacio Sostenible will be installed in the surroundings of the Plaza Escultor Ángel Acosta Martín where children's workshops will be held environmental education, and several SMEs on the island will give talks to share their sustainable projects.

Phe Festival is also committed to the sustainability of the Puerto de la Cuz environment and that is why, together with the town hall and the Red Cross, a clean-up is being carried out at Playa del Castillo with which they will collaborate in the marine litter sampling program. In this way, the public will know first-hand what waste reaches the coast of Puerto de la Cruz, they will learn how to remove it and deposit it in the corresponding containers.

To offset the carbon footprint generated by Phe festival, native flora species will be planted in Puerto de la Cruz starting in October with the collaboration of the city council and the La Tahonilla Flora Recovery Center.

This commitment to reducing waste on the festival site extends to the foodtrucks and the cocktail area, which will have at their disposal a wide catalog of compostable packaging so that plastic will gradually disappear in future editions. The straws that will be used in the Phe cocktail area are made of sugar, thus becoming biodegradable.

In addition, recycling islands will be installed throughout the venue to separate the waste generated by the Festival. Yellow containers (plastic, metal), gray for organic waste and blue for cardboard will be used both by the public and by all the event workers who this year will receive training in environmental education prior to the event.

Phe is committed to giving waste a second life and incorporates into its stands and furniture decorative elements made from what others consider to be waste, from discarded furniture, pallets, tarps from other editions of the Festival, etc., returning to the production cycle and giving value to many objects that otherwise would have become waste.

Phe Festival thus maintains the socio-cultural proposals that it has been developing as added value to the concerts, which in this edition will be held on August 23 and 24 in the venue installed on the esplanade of the Puerto de la Cruz quay, with a poster of artists in which important national and international references such as Depedro, We Are Scientists, Carolina Durante, Locoplaya, Arizona Baby, Ángel Stanich or Los Punsetes stand out. Tickets and subscriptions are on sale on the website itself. www.phefestival.com and on the platform www.tickety.es as well as at official points of sale in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Integrated into the 2020 Cultural Strategy promoted by the Puerto de la Cruz Culture area, Phe Festival continues its commitment to turning the city into a benchmark for large-format live music, providing freshness, reflection and sustainability criteria, to consolidate a brand, a style and a seductive image oriented abroad without losing the commitment with the public here.
