The collective exhibition, which is exhibited at the Castillo San Felipe Cultural Space, premieres the Phe 2020 program
The programming of the 2020 edition of Phe Festival will begin on Friday, August 7, at 8:00 p.m., with the inauguration of Phe Gallery in the Cultural Space Castillo San Felipe. The exhibition, curated by Alex Leto and The C Project collective, brings together 17 artistic projects in which 21 emerging creators from the Canary Islands participate.
With the intention of proposing a current approach to creativity, innovation and culture, Phe Gallery shows works that maintain an urban and social discourse, and is developed with the collaboration of the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands. "Now more than ever, we must support cultural creation and specifically, promote young artists from the land," says the general director of Youth, Laura Fuentes Vega. “Innovation, creativity, are part of their vital development, but they must also be the axis of social and economic development for the Canary Islands. It is our commitment to collaborate where opportunities are given to young people from the islands, such as in Phe Gallery, and we also seek to pamper a young public that values and cares for culture”, he adds.
The opening of Phe Gallery will have limited capacity and measures that guarantee sanitary safety and hygiene for the public and workers, provisions that are integrated into the protection plans developed by the Municipal Department of Culture of Puerto de la Cruz. “This city is committed to Culture and indebted to the artists who allowed it to be the only lifesaver in these unprecedented times, that is why Puerto de la Cruz is the perfect setting, which will give refuge today and always to the most emerging artists in Phe Gallery that, as a collective exhibition that it is, is shared in an authentic coexistence where dialogue is held without words”, stressed Mayor Marco González.
The act will be complemented outside the Castillo San Felipe Cultural Space with the performance Video Glitch System, visual project with 'obsolete' analog technologies of the artist Oliver Behrman, accompanied by background music. All this in the surroundings of Playa Jardín, accommodated as a terrace for the occasion, which will allow attendees to establish links, exchange opinions and share experiences in a relaxed way.
The collective exhibition can be visited with free access until August 29 and has proposals for painting, sculpture, graffiti, installations, photography or illustration by artists and collective projects such as Víctor Reyes, 33'3, Teresa Cabrera, Rebecka Skog , Paulina Mocna, Martina Armas Valero, Makarrón, Idaira del Castillo, Héctor Mar, Daniel Jordán, Emma J. Bach, Deva River, Daniel Rietti, Claudia Melchor, Cayetana H. Cuyás, Colectivo Carpantea and Candela Daltónica. The hours to enjoy Phe Gallery will be from Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Phe Festival thus maintains the cultural proposals that it has been developing as an added value to the concerts, which in this edition will celebrate its two days of direct shows on August 21 and 22 at the El Peñón Municipal Stadium. Organized and directed by Phenomenal Studio and Imoa Productions, it is sponsored by the Puerto de la Cruz City Council and the Puerto de la Cruz Rehabilitation Consortium. The festival is part of the 2020 Cultural Strategy promoted by the Culture area of Puerto de la Cruz, and is sponsored by the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of the Canary Islands.
